We are inviting everyone involved in travel -- whether you're a traveler or offering travel-related services -- to adopt our Safe Travels pledge. Get yourself, or your guests, to do as follows:

  • Take a Covid-19 test immediately before travel and travel only if the results are negative.

  • Wear a mask that is equivalent to, or better than, an N95 mask while in vehicles, airports, inside buildings and while getting within 10 feet of other people. Remove it in public only to eat or drink. Wear your mask while entering or leaving a restaurant and wear it while interacting with staff.

  • Use 70% or higher-percent alcohol solution or equivalent disinfectant to wipe down table surfaces in restaurants or airplanes before use, even if you’ve been told that everything has been sanitized.

  • Make sure the hotel room, AirBnB or guest house you stay in has been empty for 5 days before your arrival for maximum safety.

  • Upon checking in to your lodging, disinfect all surfaces you touch such as door knobs, all glass, tile and metal surfaces with rubbing alcohol spray.

  • Wash or sterilize your hands before and after entering or leaving buildings or vehicles or touching anything.

  • Avoid entering poorly ventilated buildings with large crowds.

  • Never attend crowded events or visit crowded places.

  • Favor outdoor and well-ventilated locations, venues and activities.

  • Always stay at least 6 feet away from people from outside your group.

  • If you feel any symptoms or believe you have come in contact with someone infected, immediately quarantine yourself.

  • Do not travel to places with active outbreaks.

  • Favor private, rather than public, transportation.

  • Carry an extra mask and be willing to give it to someone who forgot his or her mask and is interacting with you.

(In addition to the Safe Travels Pledge, we have additional recommendations for Gastronomad guests, which we share as part of our pre-trip briefings.)

The bottom line is that it's OK to travel during the pandemic, minimizing your risk of catching or spreading the disease by taking the Pledge and following it to the letter.
