about The El Salvador Gastronomad Experience

El Salvador, a Central American tropical paradise, is home to wide-open soft black sand beaches, warm Pacific waters, stunning volcanoes, colonial architecture, Mayan ruins, tropical forests, natural springs, delicious food, and the world’s friendliest people.

The El Salvador Gastronomad Experience is the best way to experience this exotic and singular culture in comfort and safety. You’ll be greeted as family by our family—literally! El Salvador is the country of Amira’s birth, and she has an extensive community of relatives there who will help her welcome you to their country. Plus, Amira is fluent in Spanish.

You may have heard of the star of Salvadoran cuisine — the venerable pupusa. But the country’s tables are adorned with so many other delights that combine indigenous, Spanish, and African influences — incredible seafood from the Pacific Ocean, sandwiches like pan con pavo, empanadas, tamales, yuca frita, platanos fritos, sopa de pata mariscada, riguas, atol shuco and ayote en miel. Salvadoran foods use delicious and exotic ingredients you may have never heard of, including loroco, jicaro seeds, pacaya, aihuashte, and others, as well as your Latin American favorites of corn, beans, rice, meat, tropical fruits, and chilis.

El Salvador is a compact study in contrasts, from wide-open beaches, incredible hillsides of coffee in the mountains, towering volcanoes and stunning volcanic lakes, green forests, cacao farms, sugar cane fields and beautiful, brightly colored colonial towns with red tile rooftops and cobblestone lanes. And El Salvador has the most stunning sunsets we have ever seen.

We believe that someday, El Salvador will become a super popular tourist destination. But for now, you can join us in an unparalleled, once-in-a-lifetime gastronomic exploration of this delicious and unique tropical paradise.
