After our second Mexico City Gastronomad Experience of the year and our fourth journey of 2026, we boarded a flight back to California for a brief visit with loved ones. We planned to fly straight from Mexico City to Italy, but life rarely follows itineraries; we stayed open, and now find ourselves in California for a few unexpected, happy days.
There is something about being in the air that always invites reflection for me, a small pocket of time set apart from everything else. In that stillness, a deep sense of gratitude fills my heart for the many blessings in our life, for the extraordinary people we’re privileged to collaborate with, and for the beautiful humans who join us and help our Gastronomad family continue to grow.
With every Gastronomad Experience, I’m reminded that it’s not just the places that stay with us, but always the people.
Not just the restaurant, but the hands and hearts behind it. The ones who welcome us with warmth and generosity, offering not only a meal but a story, a glimpse into their world with each dish placed before us as we come together around the table.
Their passion is palpable, as is their resilience and their humble pride. Their dedication and devotion to something larger than themselves.
There is a warmth of heart in witnessing how much care lives within what they create. These are individuals honoring their culture in the most tangible way, preserving traditions that might otherwise fade, carrying forward techniques, ingredients, stories, and wisdom passed from one generation to the next.
Many are shaping a more enduring future: supporting local farmers practicing regenerative and sustainable agriculture, protecting native ingredients, working in harmony with the land and the seasons, choosing integrity even when it asks too much of them.
What they offer is not only food. It is continuity. Responsibility. A deep respect for where they come from. A living legacy.
And then there are those who arrive to experience it all.
Open, curious, willing to step into the unknown
Our guests, who quickly become genuine friends and an essential part of this ever-evolving Gastronomad family.
There is something beautiful in how quickly connection forms. Around a table. Over a shared glass of wine. In laughter that feels both new and familiar.
Strangers at first, and then something closer to family. A sense of community that lingers long after the journey ends.
Each experience leaves its imprint. Not loud or fleeting, but quiet and enduring.
And in many ways, travel brings all of this together. It allows us to support these remarkable artisans, to learn from one another, to deepen our appreciation, and to take part, in some small but meaningful way, in something that is good for the world. It reminds us that, fundamentally, we are one shared humanity.
Lately, though, I’ve been sensing a subtle shift. A hesitation that feels more pronounced than before, a kind of holding back, as if the uncertainty in the world is making many of us pause, wait, and stay within what’s familiar. And yet, life does not pause with us, nor does it wait for us.
Time continues forward, unaffected by our waiting
We often tell ourselves there will be a better moment. A future day. A time that feels more certain, more secure, more right to begin. Unfortunately, that day never comes. And life goes on.
What does arrive, consistently, is the passing of time. And within that, we do have a choice to make.
To let our days slip by nearly unnoticed. Or to fill them with something that nourishes us, that connects us, that reminds us we are here, now, alive in this fleeting and extraordinary life.
Travel, when approached with intention, has a way of bringing us back to that truth.
Not through grand gestures, but through small, meaningful moments. A shared table. A conversation that lingers. A place that opens something within us and stays long after we’ve left.
If you’ve been feeling that quiet pull, I hope you listen to it.
If something within you has been asking for more, I hope you trust that voice.
And if hesitation has been holding you back, I want you to know that the way we travel is grounded in care, trust, and deep relationships with the people who welcome us. You are supported, guided, and genuinely looked after every step of the way.
Life is not waiting. Life will never wait.
And perhaps, we are not meant to wait either.
Not for the perfect time. Not for certainty. Not for everything to align just so. Life is inherently imperfect, and it is ours to shape, to create, to cultivate, one decision at a time.
Perhaps we are meant to meet life as it is. To say yes when something calls us. To gather, to connect, to experience, while we can.
Because these moments, the ones we share, the ones that move us, the ones that stay with us, are the ones that shape a life well lived.
If you feel called, I would love to welcome you.
With love, and without hesitation,
Amira
